1. User-Generated Content Disclaimer

All reports, alerts, and content published within VIGIL are submitted by users of the application. The developer and owner of this application do NOT create, verify, or endorse any of the reports or alerts displayed. VIGIL serves solely as a platform for community members to share information about accidents, hazards, and emergencies.

2. Legal Responsibility of Reporters

Any user who submits a report bears FULL legal responsibility for the accuracy and truthfulness of the information provided. By submitting a report, you confirm that:

• The information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
• You are reporting a genuine incident that you have witnessed or have reliable information about.
• You understand that submitting false, misleading, or fabricated reports is a violation of these terms and may constitute a criminal offense under applicable laws.
• You accept full legal liability for any consequences arising from false or misleading reports you submit.

3. Consequences of False Reports

If a report is found to be false, fabricated, or intentionally misleading:

• The report will be immediately removed from the platform.
• The user's account may be permanently suspended or banned.
• The user's account information may be shared with law enforcement authorities upon legal request.
• The user may face legal prosecution under applicable law.
• The developer reserves the right to cooperate fully with government authorities and law enforcement in any investigation related to false reports.

4. No Liability of the Developer

The developer, owner, and operators of VIGIL:

• Are NOT responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any user-submitted content.
• Do NOT guarantee the truthfulness of any report or alert.
• Are NOT liable for any damages, losses, or harm resulting from reliance on information published by users.
• Are NOT liable for any actions taken by users based on reports within the app.
• Reserve the right to remove any content at any time without prior notice.

5. Data Collection & Privacy

• We collect your username, password (encrypted), and optional email for account management.
• Your GPS location is used only when you submit a report or view the map.
• We may store your device token for push notifications.
• Your report data (description, photos, location) is stored on our servers and visible to other users.
• We do NOT sell your personal data to third parties.
• We may share your data with law enforcement if required by law or court order.

6. Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your account at any time through the app settings. Upon deletion:

• Your personal information will be permanently removed.
• Reports you have submitted may remain visible but will be anonymized.
• This action is irreversible.

7. Community Verification System

VIGIL uses a community-based verification system where users can confirm or report incidents. This system is designed to improve accuracy but does NOT guarantee that all verified reports are true. Users should exercise their own judgment and contact official emergency services for confirmed emergencies.

8. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these terms at any time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
